This week, we celebrate nurses. But for us, this has never just been a calendar moment.

Every May, organizations across the country pause to recognize the nurses who power our healthcare system. They post graphics, share statistics, and write captions about heroes in scrubs.

And they mean it. We all do.

But at Talent One, National Nurses Week lands differently. Because the reason this company exists, the reason we built the standard we hold every single placement to, traces directly back to a nurse. And then another. And then an entire team of them.

This is that story.

When It Became Personal

I spent 13 years in HR and talent acquisition before founding Talent One. The work was always professional. The results were measurable. The processes were sound.

But if I’m being honest, it never felt personal.

Until it was.

When my father was diagnosed with a serious illness, my family made a commitment: we would be present. Fully, completely present for every moment we had left with him.

And in those moments, I witnessed something I was not prepared for.

The nurses who cared for my father didn’t just show up to do a job. They showed up for him. They learned his name, his humor, his preferences. They spoke to him with dignity when his body was failing him. They answered my family’s questions with patience, even when we asked the same ones twice.

They made him feel like a person, not a patient number.

And in doing so, they gave our family something I will carry for the rest of my life: peace, during one of the hardest seasons we have ever faced.

What That Experience Built

I returned to work after that season a different professional.

I had spent over a decade thinking about hiring in terms of efficiency. Speed to fill. Quality of hire. Retention rates. All important metrics. All real measures of a functioning talent operation.

But sitting in that hospital room, I realized something I hadn’t fully understood before.

Hiring isn’t just about filling roles.

It’s about people. It’s about who you trust in the moments that matter most.

And in healthcare, in home health, in clinical services, in every setting where a nurse walks through a door and takes responsibility for another human being, the standard for who gets placed has to be higher than a credential check and a clean background report.

That realization became Talent One.

The Standard We Carry

Every candidate we bring into our pipeline is evaluated against what I call the personal standard: Would I trust this person with someone I love?

It’s a simple question. But it changes everything about how you approach a search.

It means we’re not just asking: Can this nurse do the job?

We’re asking: How do they show up when it’s hard? Do they bring calm to difficult moments? Do they treat patients with the dignity that every human being deserves, regardless of circumstance?

Those aren’t soft questions. In healthcare, they’re the most important ones.

Because the families on the other side of every placement aren’t evaluating credentials. They’re evaluating presence. They’re deciding whether they can exhale, whether they can trust the person standing next to their loved one.

That exhale is what my father’s care team gave us.

And that’s what we work every day to make possible for other families.

To Every Nurse Reading This

You chose a profession that asks more of you than most people will ever understand.

You show up for night shifts and holiday weekends. You absorb the weight of hard diagnoses and harder conversations. You hold the hands of people who are frightened, and you do it with steadiness that takes years to develop and a lifetime to sustain.

You are the reason families get through the hardest seasons of their lives.

I know this not as an abstraction but as a daughter who watched it happen.

So this week, on behalf of everyone at Talent One, we want to say something that goes beyond a graphic or a hashtag:

Thank you for the standard you set.

Thank you for treating every patient like a person. For staying a little longer when someone needed you. For explaining it one more time, with patience, even at the end of a long shift.

Thank you for the peace you give to families who don’t know how to ask for it, but need it more than anything.

You are the reason this company exists.

And you are the reason we will never lower the standard of who we place.

A Note to Healthcare Leaders

If you lead a team of nurses, in a hospital, a home health organization, a clinical practice, you know that the people you hire shape everything.

Not just outcomes. Not just metrics.

The culture your patients experience. The safety your staff feels. The trust that families extend when they have no choice but to trust someone.

At Talent One, we don’t take that responsibility lightly.

We are committed to placing nurses who meet the standard that matters most, not just the one on a resume, but the one you feel when the right person walks into the room.

If you’re ready to stop reacting to staffing challenges and start building a team you can truly trust, we’d love to have that conversation.

Because your patients deserve nothing less.
